Message from Louis Gerard Saliot - Natadola Fiji Developer

It is not often that one gets to work on a visionary project; not just mine but that of many. For you see, The Natadola Marine Resort is unique. The site, with all its natural attributes, is wellpositioned to be amongst the world’s most magnificent.

I’m excited to be living my vision alongside many passionate professionals who bring with them strong expertise and experience. Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, InterContinental Hotels and Resort, IMG and three-time major championship winner, Vijay Singh are just some of those who have demonstrated their confi dence in this project by their investment, endorsement and involvement.

The Natadola Marine Resort is an important trend setter in Fiji’s growing Tourism product range. We have conscientiously emphasized environment preservation as we explore every
minute detail during the planning process. Nothing is taken for granted, no stone is left unturned and certainly, no quality is compromised. Even as you read this, the Mater Plan for Natadola is being brought to life by a team of consultants and partners. Yatule Beach Resort is already in operation.

InterContinental Hotel and Natadola Golf & Ocean Club are on track for delivery in 2008 with Four Seasons Resort, Residential Estate planned for opening a year thereafter. Well-planned and well-managed, this project is one that has all the critical Ingredients for success. I’d like to invite you to be a part of this success that will not only be commercially rewarding but will all also make valuable contribution to the economic and social landscape of Fiji.

A New Natadola Rising with Gerard Saliot

The Natadola Marine Resort project is divided into three stages spanning more than a decade from 2005 to 2019.

Phase One started with the completion of the building of support infrastructure by the Government of Fiji (Public Works Department) for the development which included a tar-sealed highway including bridge from the Queens Road to the resort development area in 2005. The construction of the PWD main water line is underway. This phase also includes the development of the Residential Estate comprising unique prestige villas and Tuva Village, a commercial, cultural and entertainment centre with apartments. Construction of sports facilities, including an equestrian centre, rugby pitches and tennis courts will begin during phase one and continue in later stages. This phase will run until 2009.

The two main projects in Phase One are the construction of the InterContinental Resort which began in October 2005 and is expected to be completed late next year and the development of an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Vijay Singh is also underway.

A nursery has been established – the biggest in Fiji and the South Pacifi c – to provide the estimated 1.2 million plants that will be needed to landscape the entire project. Along with all this, the rehabilitation of Sanasana Village is also on track, including installation of electricity and water supply, and the eventual building of a sewage system.

The Four Seasons Resort will be built on Navo Island just off Natadola Beach. The conceptual design is already completed and the details design are expected to be completed later this year, with construction to begin early 2008.

Phase Two is scheduled from 2010 to 2013. This stage will see the construction of a fi ve-star golf resort hotel with up to 500 rooms, a small marina and additional residential accommodation, the expansion of Tuva Village Centre with cultural facilities. A convention centre with up to 1300 seats adjoining a 200-room hotel will also be built at this time.

From 2014 to 2017, Phase Three of the Natadola Marine Resort will include an 80-room hotel on the southern coastal edge of the site, the extension of the golf course to 27 holes and 217 additional residential units and the development of a world-class spa.

Gerard Saliot Builds the Foundation for Natadola Fiji

The development of the Natadola Marine Resort is unlike any other tourism project ever undertaken in Fiji. The project will laythe foundation for a model of sustainable and sensible tourism development model that involves continual consultation with the traditional landowners before the decision-making is finalised.

The development was not an overnight triumph. It has been a difficult road getting Natadola Marine Resort off the ground. The area’s potential was realised in 1994 when Frenchman Louis Gerard Saliot, owner of APRIL Development, first visited the area.

Gerard Saliot, who has had a long affiliation with the hospitality industry, immediately saw the possibilities of an outstanding tourism development on what was then mostly barren land.

Today, after overcoming many hurdles, Saliot’s “vision” for Natadola has finally taken fl ight. The first stage of the project, the building of the InterContinental Hotel, due to be completed late next year, and the development of the 18-hole championship golf course designed by Vijay Singh, are well underway.

NATADOLA: Gerard Saliot's Vision for Fiji

The Natadola Marine Resort project is one of the most ambitious and creative tourism developments ever undertaken in Fiji, and is an integral part of the country’s overall strategy to dramatically improve the sector.

Located on the Coral Coast, about a 40-minute drive east of Nadi Airport, once completed, the Natadola Marine Resort will be one of the best integrated resorts in the Asia Pacific, made successful through the support of the indigenous community. It will become a model community for the rest of the Pacific.

Sprawled over 638 hectares (1576 acres) of awe-inspiring landscape, the integrated resort will have a wide range of facilities. Natadola will function as both a theme destination resort in itself, because of its variety of attractions and activities, and also as a staging area for excursions to other parts of the country.

Not only will it act as a stimulus to tourism, Natadola will also set the trend towards high quality integrated resort development and relieve the pressure on less well-located and planned developments elsewhere.

The Natadola resort will not compete with other resort properties such as those in Nadi and on the Coral Coast - instead it will contribute another major attraction to Fiji.

The project offers economic, social and environmental benefits through careful and well-thought-out planning and research and close consultation with the indigenous landowners.
