A New Natadola Rising with Gerard Saliot

The Natadola Marine Resort project is divided into three stages spanning more than a decade from 2005 to 2019.

Phase One started with the completion of the building of support infrastructure by the Government of Fiji (Public Works Department) for the development which included a tar-sealed highway including bridge from the Queens Road to the resort development area in 2005. The construction of the PWD main water line is underway. This phase also includes the development of the Residential Estate comprising unique prestige villas and Tuva Village, a commercial, cultural and entertainment centre with apartments. Construction of sports facilities, including an equestrian centre, rugby pitches and tennis courts will begin during phase one and continue in later stages. This phase will run until 2009.

The two main projects in Phase One are the construction of the InterContinental Resort which began in October 2005 and is expected to be completed late next year and the development of an 18-hole championship golf course designed by Vijay Singh is also underway.

A nursery has been established – the biggest in Fiji and the South Pacifi c – to provide the estimated 1.2 million plants that will be needed to landscape the entire project. Along with all this, the rehabilitation of Sanasana Village is also on track, including installation of electricity and water supply, and the eventual building of a sewage system.

The Four Seasons Resort will be built on Navo Island just off Natadola Beach. The conceptual design is already completed and the details design are expected to be completed later this year, with construction to begin early 2008.

Phase Two is scheduled from 2010 to 2013. This stage will see the construction of a fi ve-star golf resort hotel with up to 500 rooms, a small marina and additional residential accommodation, the expansion of Tuva Village Centre with cultural facilities. A convention centre with up to 1300 seats adjoining a 200-room hotel will also be built at this time.

From 2014 to 2017, Phase Three of the Natadola Marine Resort will include an 80-room hotel on the southern coastal edge of the site, the extension of the golf course to 27 holes and 217 additional residential units and the development of a world-class spa.
